Job Description

Immediate need for an Assistant Construction Manager to join an established and growing Water Utility Construction Company at our Leland, NC (Wilmington) office. We are looking for a candidate with a 2 or 4-year degree in a construction-related field (Construction Management, Civil Engineering) or with 3-plus years of construction management experience.

The Assistant Construction Manager will support the Senior Project Manager and Superintendent with ongoing and future projects located in the eastern Carolinas. Roll will include: Estimating new projects and negotiating with subcontractors, managing subcontractors, managing the project budget, managing the project schedule, and ensure the quality of work completed. The Assistant Construction Manager will work with a positive and highly-motivated team of construction professionals to learn and further develop their knowledge of the construction life cycle. This rotation of experience will allow for growth into a number of different disciplines within the business (Estimating, Project Management, Field Management)

Responsibilities:

  • Help receive quotes and negotiate with subcontractors
  • Facilitate crews and subcontractors on a day-to-day basis
  • Manage the schedule, budget, and quality of work done on all projects
  • Complete Quantity takeoffs and order materials
  • Travel to all active jobs – field work 50% of the time
  • Correspondence with the client on any necessary tasks
  • Develop change orders
  • Maintain RFI’s and submittals using Viewpoint Teams
  • Maintain as built information using Bluebeam
  • Confirm safety standards are followed by employees and subcontractors

Qualifications for Assistant Project Manager

  • 2 to 3 years of construction-related experience Preferred. Also willing to train a degreed individual with a desire to learn.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Computer and technical skills
  • Desire to learn the construction project management field and grow with a company
  • Professionally represent the company to the owners, architects, engineers, subcontractors, government officials, and inspectors
  • Detail-oriented and driven
